The Beaumont Public Library System is offering more than 60 vibrant programs this month, moving far beyond classic story times and crafts.

Highlights this week include daily story sessions, LEGO clubs, spring break movies, and hands-on STEM fun for families that won’t strain your wallet or patience.

Homeschoolers can find dedicated activities to break up the routine and keep learning exciting.

Adults benefit from book clubs, computer tutorials, job searching resources, free tax help, and unique body-doubling work sessions—think coffee shop productivity, but free and focused.

Creative minds will love the writing groups, genealogy support, and interactive art workshops designed for lifelong curiosity.

Every program is free and open to all, with most activities not requiring advance registration—just drop in and join your neighbors.

Southeast Texas is home to a vibrant community of authors, ranging from fiction writers to those capturing local history or penning heartfelt memoirs.

Many of these writers depend on the support of their neighbors, since national media coverage rarely reaches their publications.

Earlier this week, Monica and Alecea Walters - a mother-daughter duo hosted a book signing event that highlighted the importance of connecting readers directly with authors.

Attending events like these offers a chance to meet the people behind the pages, ask questions, and celebrate the creative courage it takes to share a story with the world.

Next time a local author event appears, consider showing your support; it’s a simple, meaningful way to uplift voices in your own community.

Quote Of The Day

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." - Albert Schweitzer

Beaumont’s most vital community work often unfolds quietly, without headlines or applause.

Across the city, dedicated volunteers gather at churches, community centers, and even parking lots, running grassroots food programs that serve those in need.

Unlike large food banks, these operations are local and personal—like Calvary Baptist Church's Saturday morning giveaways, where anyone can take what they need with no questions asked.

Christian Community Action has been a lifeline for families on Avenue A, offering groceries—including fresh produce—twice a month for decades.

Evening and weekend hours at various church pantries make support accessible, especially for those working long or irregular shifts.

While these programs can’t eliminate food insecurity, they provide a crucial buffer—helping neighbors bridge tough stretches and ensuring children don’t go hungry outside school.

If you can help, volunteers and donations—especially cash—are always needed.

BookTok Made Me Read It (And I Loved Them All)

I'm not immune to BookTok. I tried to be. I told myself I had enough books on my TBR pile and didn't need the algorithm telling me what to read next. And then I watched one video. Then another. And now here we are.

Here are five books BookTok convinced me to read, and I don't regret a single one:

1. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Old Hollywood glamour, messy relationships, and a story about identity and ambition that will stay with you long after you close the book. Emotional but not manipulative. I cried. You will too.

2. Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Yes, same author. No, I don't care. This one's told in interview format and follows the rise and fall of a fictional 1970s rock band. It reads like a documentary. You'll finish it in two days.

3. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

A thriller that actually surprised me. A woman shoots her husband and then stops speaking. A therapist becomes obsessed with getting her to talk. The twist? Worth the hype.

4. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

What if you could explore all the lives you didn't live? This book is about regret, choice, and second chances. It's gentle and devastating at the same time.

5. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I was late to this one. Everyone already read it. But if you haven't, do it. A murder mystery wrapped in a coming-of-age story set in the North Carolina marshlands. Beautiful writing. Stick with it through the first 50 pages. It's worth it.

All five are available at Beaumont libraries. You're welcome.
