Beaumont Current      Edition 50 | October 21, 2026

What’s moving. Why it matters. Where you fit.

FIFTY EDITIONS.

AND THE 409 KEEPS GIVING US SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT! πŸŽ‰

Well, would you look at that? We've reached Edition 50!

Fifty opportunities to discover something new, celebrate a neighbor, share a little good news, or find another reason to love this corner of Southeast Texas.

This week, we're highlighting a new way to connect with community resources, upcoming events worth putting on your calendar, and the everyday progress

happening around us.

Whether you've been reading since the beginning or just found us,

we're glad you're here.

Here's to the stories that bring us together. Welcome to Edition 50!

The City of Beaumont has launched a new Community Resources Dashboard, making it easier for residents to find food assistance, shelters, housing support, and other local services β€” all in one place.

Developed by the city's Housing and Community Services Division, the tool features an interactive map, service directories, operating hours, and volunteer opportunities.

Beyond helping individuals, community organizations can also use the dashboard to coordinate efforts, reduce duplicated services, and identify gaps in local assistance.

Whether you're seeking help, supporting a neighbor, or looking for a meaningful way to give back, this free resource is designed with Beaumont families in mind.

The dashboard is available through the City of Beaumont's official website. Residents are encouraged to contact individual providers directly to confirm hours and availability before visiting.

Beaumont's Next Big Ideas

Lamar University's Venture Center is gearing up for its annual Cardinal Ideas Pitch Competition, giving aspiring entrepreneurs a chance to turn bold ideas into real opportunities.

On November 12, 2026, participants will present their business concepts to a panel of judges at the Dade Phelan Building, competing for $10,500 in total awards β€” including $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second, and $1,000 for third.

Eligible teams must include at least one Lamar University student who delivers the pitch, and applications are due by October 23 at 5 p.m.

Beyond prize money, the competition reflects the Venture Center's broader mission β€” connecting students, mentors, and community leaders to build a stronger entrepreneurial culture across Southeast Texas.

A thriving Beaumont isn't built by established businesses alone β€” it's also shaped by the people willing to take a chance on something new.
