What's moving. Why it matters. Where you fit.

⭐We are publishing a day early this week because tonight matters.⭐

Week two of school. The routines are setting in and the year is beginning to take shape. Tonight Beaumont has a reason to show up for one of its most important community institutions. And this week it was reminded what it looks like when a stranger runs toward danger instead of away from it.

In 1968, Beaumont residents seeking help often heard they needed to go “somewhere else.”

That need inspired the creation of Some Other Place, a grassroots organization that has served the city’s most vulnerable for nearly six decades.

Their soup kitchen now feeds about 200 people daily.

They also provide vital emergency assistance and case management, relying on community support and faith to keep going.

Once a year, they ask Southeast Texans to gather and lend a hand.

Tonight, the 24th Annual Tasting for Some Other Place brings over 40 local groups to the Beaumont Civic Center from 5 to 7 p.m.

Taste brisket, gumbo, jambalaya, and more, all included with a $15 ticket—children 6 and under eat free.

Live music by Midlife Crisis, great food, and fellowship support the group’s only yearly fundraiser.

Every ticket makes a difference for neighbors in need.

On Friday morning in Beaumont, a car crashed and caught fire on South Major Drive around 8:30 a.m.

A Good Samaritan witnessing the accident didn’t hesitate.

He raced to the burning vehicle, reached through the shattered rear window, and struggled to free a small girl from her car seat as flames grew around them.

When the first Beaumont Police officer arrived, he quickly handed the rescuer a knife to cut through the restraints.

Together they pulled both the child and the driver to safety.

Miraculously, both survived.

The brave civilian suffered cuts to his arms and legs but was recognized by police, who credited his swift action with saving lives.

This remarkable act of courage spread across the nation, holding up Beaumont’s spirit as an example of resilience and humanity.

This city is resilient. It is resourceful. It is relational.

Tonight a community shows up for those who have nowhere else to go.

A stranger ran toward a fire.

That is Beaumont doing what Beaumont does.

See you next week. 🌸
