Heavy rain on Monday morning caused a dramatic roof collapse at the Beaumont VA Outpatient Clinic, forcing a rapid evacuation of staff and veterans.
Clinic nurse manager Pedro Leon, an Army veteran, quickly recognized the danger, moving people out with the help of Dr. Shanthi Reddy and other team members.
The building was cleared moments before the roof gave way.
No injuries were reported.
The VA recognized five employees—Will Angelle, Latrecia Garrett, Pedro Leon, Dr. Shanthi Reddy, and Jose Estrada—for their swift actions.
The clinic serves over 10,000 veterans across Southeast Texas and has now switched to telehealth appointments, with mobile medical units stationed onsite.
A new and larger Beaumont VA clinic, already under construction, is expected to open in 2025, offering crucial upgrades for the community. Read More... |
