Beaumont residents united at Lamar University on January 31 to mark the city's first-ever Be Well Beaumont Day, celebrating community health and wellness.
The event, hosted at the Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center, stems from a 10-year initiative by MD Anderson Cancer Center with a $10 million boost from ExxonMobil.
Attendees enjoyed fitness demos, gardening workshops, live performances, and a kids’ play area, promoting nutritious and active lifestyles.
Free food distributions and access to local health resources made wellness fun and accessible for all ages.
Mayor Roy West declared January 31 as Be Well Beaumont Day, reflecting the city’s commitment to healthier living.
The initiative, driven by United Way, Gift of Life, and a network of about 40 organizations, aims to reduce cancer deaths and make wellness a vibrant part of Beaumont’s culture. Read More... |

AI and Legal Challenges |
In Beaumont, Texas, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in legal work is reshaping courtrooms and prompting new ethical standards.
Attorney Brandon Monk was recently fined $2,000 by a federal judge for using AI to generate a court filing filled with fabricated case citations. He must now complete an education course on proper AI use in law.
This case has accelerated local efforts to regulate AI, with new court rules now requiring lawyers to disclose and verify any AI-generated material.
Beaumont's attorneys see the efficiency AI brings to tasks like document drafting, but stress that careful oversight is essential to guard against errors and ethical lapses.
The city’s legal community is creating clear guidelines to responsibly integrate technology, striving to maintain public trust while embracing innovation. Read More... |
