IN THIS WEEK'S EDITION Three things this week: Beaumont is building safety infrastructure that covers every park in the city and you can be part of it, a potter building his legacy one class at a time, and something every homeowner needs to handle before August 31. A quick note: Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall in Louisiana this morning and is tracking westward. No alerts are currently in effect for Jefferson County. Monitor nhc.noaa.gov for updates. |

This summer, Beaumont residents have faced deep concerns over safety following shootings at Perlstein Park and Rogers Park.
Parents are hesitant to let children play outside, while many older residents are staying indoors.
The community’s grief and anxieties have sparked urgent questions for city leaders.
Now, Beaumont is taking action.
City officials announced plans to expand the Real-Time Crime Center’s camera network citywide, aiming to cover every park and remove all existing blind spots.
This advanced system, called Fusus, integrates live video from parks, traffic feeds, license plate readers, and registered private cameras, empowering police to respond swiftly and solve cases—already playing a key role in 87 investigations and weapons recoveries.
Community leader Arthur Louis Jr. stressed the expansion will safeguard future generations.
Residents can contribute by registering their own cameras with the Beaumont Police Department, further strengthening local security efforts. Read More... |
Beaumont residents who have relied on blue bins for extra trash collection are facing a final deadline.
The City of Beaumont will permanently end pickups of blue recycling containers after August 31, 2026, offering residents a little more time beyond the previously announced cutoff.
The blue bins were privately purchased for a recycling program that ended in 2019.
Since then, the city has continued collection as a courtesy, but this will end for good after August 31.
Residents now have two choices: request a second city-issued green trash can—either online or by calling the Solid Waste Division—which incurs extra fees; or schedule a pickup for removal and repurposing of the blue bin by calling 311.
Act now, as the collection deadline is just weeks away. Read More... |

John Alexander’s journey in entrepreneurship began in Beaumont at just eleven, captivated by clay in the local Art Studio of Southeast Texas.
Today he runs J. Alexander Pottery at 1089 Magnolia Avenue, a working studio and gallery where he produces functional and non-functional stoneware pottery and sculpture, every piece handcrafted and fired in his own kiln. And now he is doing something that completes the circle in the best possible way. He just opened hands-on pottery classes for all ages.
"A place where people can slow down, learn a new skill and create something unique with their own hands," is how Alexander describes the studio experience.
To sign up for classes or inquire about the studio, call or text 409-363-1422, message J. Alexander Pottery Co. on Facebook, or email jalexanderpotterycompany@gmail.com.
