Every week we introduce you to someone in this city who decided to stop waiting and start building.

Paul Nguyen spent four years serving burgers out of a truck. Now he runs a Beaumont food hall built specifically so other local vendors would not have to start the way he did.

For four years, Paul Nguyen ran Broke Boyz, a burger and wings food truck that worked its way across Southeast Texas one event and one parking lot at a time. In January 2026, he opened something bigger. Beaumont Food District, a food hall concept at 4438 Dowlen Road, took over the space left behind when the former Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse closed the previous October.

The opportunity came almost by accident. The building's previous owner reached out to Nguyen directly and told him he had a space where Nguyen could finally make his vision real. It had been an idea for a while. The opportunity is what turned it into a plan.

The obstacle was not opening one more restaurant. It was building something Nguyen has described as a first of its kind in the region, a shared space with dedicated prep, storage, and service areas for multiple independent vendors under one roof, rather than just scaling up his own truck into a bigger version of itself.

What Nguyen knows now shows up in how he built the model. Beaumont Food District did not launch as a solo act. It opened with three Southeast Texas food businesses sharing the space, Broke Boyz alongside Manny's Catering and Divine Flavor, with a rotating cast of vendors by design so more local operators get a shot at a real storefront without carrying the full overhead alone.

That is what makes this a Beaumont story and not just a restaurant opening. Nguyen built his own name first, then turned around and built room for other people to build theirs. In a city with a lot of food trucks and not a lot of easy paths from truck to storefront, that is worth noticing.
