No Kids in the House? Beaumont Still Needs You in the Building. |
Whether your children are grown, you never had any, or your grandchildren live across town, there is a role for every adult in shaping what happens to Beaumont's young people this school year. |

Not everyone reading this is sending a child back to school this week. But every single person reading this lives in a community where what happens to the children matters. The problems Beaumont has been navigating this summer, the violence, the fear, the questions about what young people need and where they are going, do not get solved by parents alone. They get solved by the whole community deciding to show up.
If you do not have school-age children at home, here is how you can be part of the answer this school year.
Not everyone engages the same way. Here are some ideas matched to who you actually are.
IF YOU LOVE ONE-ON-ONE CONNECTION
IF YOU HAVE A PROFESSIONAL SKILL OR CAREER WORTH SHARING
IF YOU ARE CREATIVE OR ARTISTIC
IF YOU WANT TO SERVE WITHOUT DIRECT CONTACT WITH CHILDREN The Arc of Greater Beaumont serves youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities and needs volunteers in multiple capacities. Visit arcofbmt.org.
IF YOU CANNOT BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT BUT WANT TO CONTRIBUTE
Create a resource. Activity kits. A how-to guide. A workbook. Something a teacher or community center can use with children year after year. Donate it to the Beaumont Public Library or a local organization.
Fund something small. A $250 annual scholarship through a local organization. A supply fund for a specific program. Money you will never miss that changes what is possible for a young person who earns it.
IF YOU WANT TO BUILD SOMETHING THAT OUTLASTS YOU
The problem Beaumont is trying to solve is not a lack of programs. It is a lack of consistent adult presence. You do not have to join an organization to matter to a child. You just have to decide to show up in some intentional way and keep showing up.
That decision is available to every person reading this right now. |
