On Wednesday morning, a courtroom at the Jack Brooks Federal Building was filled with families, nerves, and something that does not happen every day: nearly 80 people from 14 different countries stood together and took the oath of United States citizenship. They recited the Pledge of Allegiance out loud, together, in a room full of people who love them. Federal Judge Michael Truncale presided. The ceremony carried extra weight this year as the country approaches its 250th anniversary. Beaumont has always been a place where people come to build something. Last week, 80 more people made it official. |
